EXCLUSIVE VISIT BY DIBA MEMBERS TO ONE OF THE VATICAN MUSEUMS

On 30 September 2025, a large delegation of DIBA members visited the Pio Cristiano
Museum of the Vatican Museums. The Umberto Utro, Curator of the Department of
Christian Antiquities, guided the participants with lots of passion along the tombs of the
first centuries A.C. and made the participants note the transformation, over the centuries,
of the art subjects from symbols of gods into images of Christ and Saints. Curator Utro
made the DIBA members simultaneously of the fact that the hereafter was first pictured as
a hope and later as a certainty.

The guests were also allowed to visit area’s that are currently closed for the public and
could admire rare sculptures of Ceasar and Cleopatra, plus tombstones of a construction
family that had sculpted on its tombs important monuments on which it had worked, such
as the Colosseum, plus the related construction tools.
Subsequently, Art restorer Valentina Lini showed us the laboratory of the Vatican
Museums, where marble objects and other stone art pieces are being restored, and the
participants learned about various restoration techniques.

After the event, the participants enjoyed a nice apericena in a nearby restaurant called La
Locanda di Pietro.
